FAQ

WHAT IS A ZINE?
Zines are fan magazines, also named “fanzines”, that is to say, books of unofficial content relating to a particular fandom or set of fandoms. Zines are often centered on a theme, character or ship, and may or may not be offered with additional merch items.
WHAT IS THIS PROJECT?
This is a zine about the relationship between Childe and Scaramouche from Genshin Impact. We are not centered on any specific dynamic, and are instead celebrating their relationship in all its forms.
HOW DO ZINES WORK?
Like all long-term projects, fanzines typically go through several phases before they can land in your hands. The phases are as such:
— Interest check: This is a general poll to measure interest in the project and determine its specifications based on what kind of content its potential buyers would like to see in the final product.
— Applications: People who would like to contribute to the fanzine will be able to submit a portfolio to apply for a position among the zine’s contributors. Mods will then determine which artists, merch artists and writers will have their work showcased in the zine.
— Production: Over several months, contributors will produce their pieces.
— Preorders: Fanzines are usually produced on a preorder basis so the mod team can determine how many items are needed to fulfill the demand, since zine production costs are quite heavy. Once the preorders are over, we will proceed with manufacturing all of the items included in bundles and then ship them out to you once we have received them.
WILL THIS BE A DIGITAL OR A PHYSICAL ZINE?
The mods are prepared to make this zine a physical product, but the decision will depend on the interest check results. If we don't consider it feasible to create a physical version, this zine will be available as a digital PDF file, potentially with digital merch items.
WILL THIS ZINE BE FOR-PROFIT OR FOR-CHARITY?
This fanzine will be for-profit. If we have a physical version, we will aim to compensate every contributor with a full bundle of the physical zine and accompanying merch, with free shipping (and the option to claim the value as a financial compensation instead, if some people would rather have that). Any further profits would be split equally between all participants.
In the case that profits are not sufficient to cover a full bundle for all participants, mods will consider options available to them; this may involve the mods paying certain items out of their own pocket, asking contributors to cover shipping costs or a part of the cost, or any other option deemed acceptable by the contributors. We will of course do our best to avoid this outcome and make sure all contributors are fairly compensated for their work.CAN I APPLY FOR MORE THAN ONE POSITION?
Yes, you may apply for multiple positions, but you will likely only be selected for one position.
HOW MANY CONTRIBUTORS WILL YOU ACCEPT?
The total number of contributors will depend on the results of the interest check, as this number will have a direct impact on the project's financials. Tentatively, we are expecting to accept between 20 and 30 artists and 4 to 6 writers.
HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO APPLY?
You need to be 18 years old or older when the applications close.
WILL CREATORS BE ABLE TO SHARE THEIR WORKS PUBLICLY?
Creators will retain all ownership rights over their works, but they agree to give the fanzine the "right of first print". What this means is that, during the creation period, we ask creators to refrain from posting their work publicly. After the project is completed—that is to say, after all preorders have been shipped out, if we choose to go physical, or after the zine's PDF is released—creators will be allowed to share their entire work publicly, produce extra prints to sell, etc.
WILL THIS ZINE FEATURE NSFW CONTENT?
That will depend on the results of the interest check, but if there is NSFW content, it will be sold/offered separately from the SFW content.
For any additional questions, feel free to communicate with us on CuriousCat!

Applications

Our contributor applications will be opened in late February and will last until the end of March. Please refer to our Twitter for the announcement post and the exact end date of the application period. Application forms will also be linked in our Twitter announcement posts. All applicants should take note of the following:
— All applicants should be 18 years old or older at the time applications are closed in order to apply.
— Please make sure your samples and portfolio are publicly accessible. Locked or broken links will cause an automatic rejection.
— NSFW samples are allowed (and encouraged if you're applying to the NSFW side-zine), but please label them accordingly.
— Your portfolio must feature at least one Genshin Impact work.
While not mandatory, we strongly recommend including pieces that feature Scaramouche/Wanderer and/or Childe/Tartaglia in your samples and portfolio. They do not have to be featured as a couple, nor are the works required to be ship content.
— Moderators will only consider a potential contributor’s submitted portfolio and samples as part of the selection process. Other factors, such as content produced outside of the zine and personal following will not be taken into account.
PAGE & COMIC ARTIST APPLICATIONS
Accepted page artists will be assigned to produce a single page illustration (portrait) or a 2-page spread (landscape) for the fanzine. Accepted comic artists will be allowed to take up to 4 pages (portrait) to tell a story.
Applications for this position should include:
3 samples that best represent the art style you would like to bring to the zine, including at least one fully rendered piece with full colour, shading, and appropriately detailed background, in your style.
— A portfolio of at least 6 artworks (which can include your samples) showcasing your skills.
— If you are applying for the NSFW companion zine, you must provide at least one additional sample which is suggestive or NSFW in nature.
MERCH ARTIST APPLICATIONS
Accepted merch artists will be expected to produce 2 or 3 artworks for merch items. The following items are currently considered:
— Acrylic charms
— Enamel pins
— Stickers
— Notepads/sticky notes
— Tote bag
— Specialty charm (e.g. shaker charm or candy bag charm)
— Standee
— Discord emojis
At this time, we are not planning to produce merch items to go with the NSFW companion zine.
All merch artist applications must include:
— At least 3 samples that best represent the art style you’d like to use to produce merch for this zine.
— A portfolio of at least 6 pieces (which can include your samples), ideally including artworks that were used to produce merch items or pictures of produced merch items using your art.
WRITER APPLICATIONS
Accepted writers will be expected to write a fanfiction of 2,000 to 2,500 words featuring Childe/Tartaglia and Scarmaouche/Wanderer as a romantic couple. We are not prioritising one relationship dynamic over any other, and participants are allowed full creative freedom.
All writer applications must include:
3 samples that best represent the style of writing you'd like to use in this zine.
— At least one sample must be a complete work around or under 2,500 words.
— All samples must be under 4,000 words. Excerpts are acceptable.
— Please include appropriate content/trigger warnings where warranted, including at the minimum the major AO3 archive warnings.
— A portfolio of at least 5 pieces (which can include your samples).
— If you are applying for the NSFW companion zine, you must provide one additional sample which is NSFW in nature, with a maximum of 4,000 words.
Please find additional details about application guidelines on the application form or our information document. Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to apply!
